Jeddah:
The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Countries (UNA) celebrated the Charter of Building Bridges Between Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects during its Ramadan forum held in Jeddah, attended by a distinguished group of scholars, intellectuals, representatives of Arab and Islamic news agencies, and major media institutions.
At the beginning of the forum, His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, spoke about the scholarly consensus on this historic document, which was issued following its founding conference in Ramadan 1445 AH. The conference was generously sponsored by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and attended by grand muftis and leading scholars of the Ummah from various Islamic schools of thought.
His Excellency praised this distinguished celebration organized by the Union of News Agencies of the OIC Countries, commending the notable scholarly, intellectual, and media diversity of the attendees.
For his part, the Director-General of the Union of News Agencies of the OIC Countries, Mr. Mohammed Al-Yami, affirmed that the forum was held in celebration of this historic document, which was signed by scholars of the Islamic Ummah beside their unified qibla in Makkah. The Charter outlines a roadmap for responsible media discourse in addressing internal Islamic issues, particularly in dealing with sectarian diversity in media coverage.
Al-Yami noted that the strong attendance at the forum reflects the richness of the Charter's content, describing it as a reference framework for Islamic media within a unifying discourse that promotes solidarity, highlights common ground, contributes to unifying voices, supports Islamic unity, and reinforces the values of moderation and rapprochement among the components of the Ummah.
The forum also witnessed the launch of the book “The Charter of Makkah: A Message of Moderation and Tolerance to the World – Global Presence and Civilizational Impact Across Continents,” in addition to the presentation of the Media Professionalism Award to the Palestinian News Agency “WAFA.”
