Earlier today, at Masjid An-Nur in Christchurch, New Zealand, the site of the terrorist attack during Friday prayers on 15 March 2019 (8 Rajab 1440 AH):
H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, visited the mosque, where he once again reviewed the mosque’s current needs and met with survivors of the terrorist attack and the families of the martyrs, may Allah have mercy on them.
H.E. reaffirmed the Muslim World League’s commitment to maintaining close engagement with Muslim communities, while continuing its initiatives and programmes to combat hateful ideologies around the world and promote the values of tolerance, coexistence, and social cohesion.
During the visit, the mosque’s officials expressed the mosque’s current need for reconstruction in light of its growing requirements, particularly following the significant growth in the number of worshippers in recent years. They also highlighted the need for a lecture and dialogue hall, and on behalf of the MWL General Secretariat, H.E. pledged that this request would be met as a matter of urgency, following the completion of the necessary legal procedures.
